London is great!
My first impressions of Ryanair were good until the point I realised that they had decided not to put my bag on the plane. So there we stood at 11.15pm at Stansted Airport with no bag. We then missed the train, and finally arrived in London pretty late. Around 1am.
The underground had stopped running, so we walked down from Liverpool Street over the Thames to London Bridge. We were a bit hungry and stopped for some fish and chips. They were yummy!
I realised how much I have missed London, the English language, or maybe just the fact of being in Coldplay country once again. The taste of salt and vinegar.
Emily came and met us on the street, we made our way south towards Nunhead. She had been really sweet and borrowed and inflatable bed for us to sleep on. Johanna is trying to pump air into it. It's making a hell of a racket at the moment. Johanna is funny when she get's worked up about things, now she is looking for the cork for the bed. I hear lots of air hissing out of the airbed. I need to help her now. The bed is now sorted.
We have spent our time so far walking around in the English rain looking in shops in the suburbs of London. We also went to see a fireworks display in the evening. It was the celebration of Guy Forks.
Guy Forks is a pretty interesting thing to celebrate. Emily's mates daughter was pleased to tell us about what we were celibrating. In a happy voice she said something like:
-Guy Forks was a man who decided he wanted to blow up the houses of parlament where the government sits and works. Guy Forks didn't like the government, obviously, but he did like his cousin who as a matter of fact worked there. He told his cousin to stay out of the parlament. His cousin liked his job and descided to tell on Guy who was caught with loads of gunpowder in the basement ready to blow the whole place up. He was then hanged, got his stomach cut open, insides ripped out, pulled between to horsecarts and then set on fire... and the kids just love it. Then people in England wonder why England is such a violent country?
Well, the kids think Guy forks is a fun night when they can stay awake late and watch fireworks, so ofcourse they are going to like it. On the other hand, it's all like a great brainwash. The message is clear: If you plan to fuck up the state, people will celibrate when the state fucks you up. Great party isn't it?
Today we went to see my uncle just North of London for some tea. We had a great laugh and some interesting chat. The ride home took a long time. Traffic here is really something. We cooked a nice meal for Emily when we got back, and watched youtube videos together with her flatmate. They didn't understand what Bjorn Gustafsson was saying, but they liked his moves.
I am pretty tired. Tomorrow it's time for more central London stuff, and then up to Edware so see Grandad. Later on in the evening we're off to the Comedy Store.
We'll that's all for now and my english issue of my blog. Johanna say's hi!
Cheers!
